We wake up to some amazing news that will make the Star Wars fans very happy. According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor is reportedly in talks with Disney to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a Disney+ T.V. series. The series could purportedly run for six to eight episodes.
This is not the first time we have heard strong rumours about plans in development to bring back the iconic character Ob-Wan Kenobi. Earlier last year, there was speculation that Disney and Lucasfilm were developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone movie, but those rumours soon dissipated.
Ewan McGregor made his first appearance as Obi-Wan Kenobi, a young Jedi apprentice under the tutelage of Master Jedi Qui-Gonn Jinn, in Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), and reprised his role in Star Wars – Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). He also made a voice-only cameo in Star Wars – Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Since Disney has not made an official announcement of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, very little information on the plot of the Disney series has surfaced. According to rumours, the series will not be an origin story but rather it will be a direct prequel to The New Hope, depicting his role as the guardian of Luke Skywalker on the planet of Tatooine.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will become the third Star Wars project to officially launched on the Disney+ platform. The Mandalorian will be the Star Wars franchise’s first series to release on the said platform, the series directed by Jon Favreau. This will be followed by a second series, which will follow the journey of Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), prior to the events that transpire in Star Wars: Rogue One.
